Between India and Hawaiʻi.
KUMARI began with an idea sketched on Lānaʻi: to bring the intricacy of Indian embroidery to the ease of island dressing. Among the colours and textures of tropical flowers, founder Amy M. Mali opened her journal and began to draw.
Her connection to India was personal. On her first visit, she wore a sari for her engagement in Maharashtra. Later, the gold zardozi embroidery of her wedding gown deepened her appreciation for the artistry of adornment.
Created in Hawaiʻi and made by hand in India, KUMARI brings these influences together in fluid resort silhouettes. Artisans interpret botanical forms in embroidery and beadwork, giving each piece its texture, weight and play of light.
Inside every garment, a K embroidered in 22-karat gold zardozi is a private signature, kept close to its wearer.
